My Adventures In Embroidery and Other Crafty Things

There's another reason why I haven't been blogging lately. I was embroidering almost everyday for 2 months straight.

The restaurant where I work has a wall where local artists can display, and sell their work. Well we didn't have a May artist, so I was asked if I could come up with anything. I'm still not the greatest seamstress. So I am still terrified to sell my sewn projects. I have nightmares of my work falling apart in my customer's hands. But there is something I can do that won't fall apart. I can embroider.

I don't have any pictures of my work that is still hanging, but I did take the time to make myself a few things.

I feel like after working on my projects for two months straight, that my work has improved. I have tucked away my sewing machine for a bit, and concentrated on my embroidering.

I found these awesome patterns at Urban Threads. They are intended for machine embroidery, but I did them by hand.

This one was particularly fun to do. It was highly detailed, and a bit challenging.
This one looked difficult, but was really quite easy, and didn't take very long to do by hand.

Now I have had this dress for many years. I picked it up at a yard sale. It reminded me so much of those awesome 90's granny dresses. I couldn't pass it up.

I ended up gaining tons of weight, and couldn't fit into it for several years. Good thing I held onto it, cause it fits me better now than the day I bought it. But it needed something.

So I stitched this pretty lady onto it.

She's not the best example I have. I stitched better ones which are still up for sale. But I still like her.

Maybe I will find her a man for the other side.

The only thing I need now is an awesome pair of combat boots to go with it. Darn you Dr. Martins and your liberal use of leather! You would go perfectly.

And lastly in the embroidery department. This zany bird is hanging in my bedroom.

I will admit, I copied. Boo Hiss.

I found this bird in a magazine, re-sketched it, added a border, and stitched it on for my visual enjoyment.

I had lots of fun making something purposefully sloppy.

Just look deep into his cooky, unfocused eyes.

A friend of mine has been trying to get me to take her fabric stash off of her hands. She gave up sewing, and wanted to get rid of it all. It made me sad that she was giving it up, because she was pretty good. Way better than me, that's for sure. She made tons of awesome tote bags. I have been refusing her offer for quite some time now, hoping she would pick it back up. But instead, she drove her fabric stash over to my house, and happily dropped all her fabric off. I gave in and took it.

Thank you Erica!

I found a cool way of keeping my trims organized.
I found a tiny ladder next out with the trash. So I hung it up, and ta-da.
And finally...I GOT A DRESS FORM!!!!!!!!!
I have only used her a little bit. I still have to properly pad her to match my measurements, and of course I have to name her. Until then, I am referring to her as my evil twin.

My, my, you have been busy! i think that dress is absolutely amazing. The stitching and the placement of the lady looks great.

And I love the little ladder you're using to store your trims. That's so creative, as well as visually interesting.

Yay! I'm glad you're back! And I love the embroideries! I, too, have been busy embroidering and have (sadly) been neglecting my blog. Meh. Your satin stitching is devine.

*referencing another post* - Congrats on eating better! I'm trying so hard to be better, and hopefully your story will motivate me. Right now I'm regretting some cake I ate at a baby shower today. :-/

(Oh, and a quick side note - the bag that I won from you makes a PERFECT tote to throw my knitting or embroidery in to take on trips! I ♥ it!) :-)
