Adventures in Garbage Picking
So I'm sure you all know by now that I love to garbage pick use-able furniture. The key word here is use-able. Is that even a word?
I love finding furniture in the trash, dragging home unwanted furniture from family member's homes, and just generally collecting strange things.
I have a confession. I am a 29 year old woman who still doesn't own a bed frame. Nope. I sleep like a dirty college student. On a mattress, on top of a box spring, on the floor. Yup. Bedroom furniture is expensive. I really don't care if I have a bed frame or not. Honestly, my bedroom is too small for a large piece of furniture such as that. However, I have always wanted a headboard. I love headboards!
And now I have one!
I found it on a tree lawn on garbage day. I saw it and yelled "HEADBOARD" and made the hubby turn the truck around to pick it up.
I promptly painted it with, what else? Chalkboard paint. I did a really bad job though. I got bored with painting it halfway through, and kinda sped my way through it. It looks fine as long as you don't stare at it for too long.
Now I feel like my much neglected bedroom is coming together.
I hung up some stuff, and finally got around to painting one of my mirrors.
My mother-in-law gave us her old patio set. Which I was quite happy to take.
I painted the chairs, but haven't quite gotten around to painting the table. It's still a bit dirty back there, and I feel like it's missing something. A lot of something.
See that HUGE fence in the background? That is my new best friend. It keeps me from having to talk to my drunk hillbilly neighbors, who drink allll day, fight with each other, yell at their dogs (I really don't blame their puppies for trying to run away every time they are let out of the house) cuss liberally and loudly, try to talk to me every time I set foot outside, and worst of all, listen to their music full blast at all hours. It's sad. Because of them, I am having a hard time enjoying open windows, and spending time with my dogs in the yard. Our houses are very close together. It's people like them that make me afraid to buy a house. What if I get stuck next to another "loud family"? (That's what my mother used to call those people.)
Can you tell I don't like them much. Don't get me wrong. They're very nice people. They just have very little regard for the people who are forced to live around them.
The other cool thing about that fence is that I got to keep a portion of the old fence.
Naturally I cleaned it off, and dragged it inside.
I'm so happy with it.
