Thank You Rachel

I'd like to say thank you to Rachel who posted a comment on my last blog post. She alerted me to the possibility that a gluten allergy could be causing not only my stomach pains, but my anemia-like symptoms as well.

From my understanding, a gluten allergy is hereditary. My grandma had cut out gluten years ago due to her allergy. So I did some reading.

Without proper health care, I am self-diagnosing myself with a gluten allergy. :)

I'm kidding...sort of.

With so many symptoms matching up, I have to give going gluten free a try.

Being vegan I already do most of my grocery shopping at our local health food store, who carries a vast array of gluten free products. Many of which I already purchase because many of them happen to be vegan as well. So I'm pretty confident I can breeze through my little experiment. However, I'm not looking forward to restricting my diet even more. It's already a pain in the fanny trying to figure out what to eat at the "regular" grocery store, and when dining out.

It can't hurt right?

Thank you again Rachel.

And thank you to all who commented on my last post. Many of you had some pretty rough stories. Which only reinforces in my mind, that the way we are doing things around here have to change.

And on a lighter note...I said fanny...hahahahahaha...yeah...I'm like a 5 year old. A coworker said it the other day, and I'm trying to work that awesome word into my daily vocabulary.

hope it helps you! Did you know that there are many pizza places that make gluten free pizza? Yep, my sister has ulcerative colitis and can't eat gluten and she found Brick Oven (?) pizza and says it's AWESOME! :) Good luck!

I hope the experiment works out!

The only iron supplement that helped me (got me out of the anemia range) was called ferralet. It was a prescription... but I looked up the chemical make-up to see how it was different, and the difference was the type of iron. It contains carbonyl iron, which you can find OTC. It's also easier on your stomach. It also contains 120mg of vitamin C for better absorbtion. Check their website if you get a chance. They have the vitamins and their measurements listed and have a request for a free sample. I think you have to have your dr sign off on it, but it shouldn't require more than a fax back and forth.

thanks so much for the advice. after talking with some family, i found out that many of them are allergic. i did some more reading on the topic, and it explains sooooo much about how i have been feeling for nearly 5 years now.
