Playing With My Camera And How I Am Betraying My Blog
I ran across an interesting article on adjusting your camera's settings for better photos. So I thought I'd play with my camera a bit. I'm not sure if my photos are any better looking, but I did notice a weird feature that I hadn't seen before.
Woah! What do you suppose that feature is for? I didn't know my camera could do that.
So how am I betraying my blog you ask? Well, I bought this over the weekend...
Yup, it's a pattern. But not just any pattern. It's a jumper pattern. Perfect for me because I love dressing like a 5 year old. :)
I picked it up for $1.50 at my favorite vintage shop. I am pretty positive it will fit me. It looks like everything is in there.
I do have a few questions though if anyone can answer them. It looks like the pattern was just kinda shoved back into the package. While there aren't any rips in it, it is a bit crinkly in places. Does anybody have any tips for smoothing them out?
I also want to know. How difficult is it to make a well fitted garment without a dress form. I still don't have one yet. Can I get away with making a dress from only this pattern, or should I wait until I pick one up?
Any advice would be helpful.
Also, thanks for your comments on the great blog revamp of 2010. I worked on it diligently yesterday morning, trying to add some kind of color to it. I was able to utilize my extremely amateurish photoshop skills. It's not perfect, but for now, it will have to do.
Happy Monday.

You found the macro button! Once I fugured that out, my pics got WAY better. And I love the new look! I would love to design my own graphics for my blog, but it's way too time consuming and I'm just not that patient. So for now I'll just stick with my borrowed graphics. Can't wait to see the dress. I think it's ok to use a pattern if the pattern rocks. :-)
i've never tried this, but i would put a towel over the paper and iron it. the towel should protect the paper and still give just enough heat that it will smooth. :)
You can iron the paper! Just don't use any steam, put it on a really low setting and move fast.
oh the jumper is super cute!!!! i can't wait to see it finished :D

You can iron the tissue paper directly, just on a very low, no-steam setting. I've done it once or twice.
As for the fitted part, you can CAREFULLY trying pinning the pattern pieces together along the seam lines and putting it on yourself. Check out the Fashion for Real People stuff at Palmer/Pletsch. I've made a couple of their things with excellent results.
Definitely iron the pattern pieces. As to the dress itself, you might consider checking out the Reader's Digest guide to sewing (or whatever it's called) which gives great info on comparing your various measurements to the pattern pieces (more than just the numbers on the envelope), and how to make alterations to the pattern and/or to a muslin mock-up of the garment.
