I Am Awesome!

O.k., I can only take partial credit for the following awesomeness, because someone else thought of it first.

I found a tutorial for this Cozy Embroidered Clock over at Prudent Baby. After seeing it, I started thinking of ways to make this in my own special way.

When I think of embroidery, I think of embroidery hoops. Hoops are round, clocks are round. Why not try to come up with a way to use this same idea in a hoop to add to my growing collection.

It really wasn't hard. I followed the instructions for marking the numbers on the clock, which was beyond helpful. But that is where I strayed from the tutorial. After embroidering the numbers on (as best as I could) and using buttons because I'm a cheater, I traced around the inside of the smaller hoop onto a piece of cardboard. I cut the cardboard out, and shoved it into the smaller hoop.

I placed the fabric in between the hoops in the same way I would when preparing to embroider. I taped (yes taped) the excess fabric onto the cardboard, marked the center, poked a hole through both the cardboard and fabric, and put my clock together.

*Sorry I don't have any pictures of the process, but I'm sick and tired of trying to get decent light anywhere near my photos. Darn daylight savings time!!!*

So why am I so awesome for making this? Because anytime I stray away from the directions for a tutorial, I end up failing miserably. But this time, it actually worked!

It's really easy to do, and I can think of about a hundred different ways to do this.

If you like embroidering, I suggest trying it. Vegkat, I'm looking in your direction. :)

*Note* Upon reading this, and calling me a dork, the hubby informed me that we are not experiencing daylight savings time, but what he calls "normal/regular time". The summer is when we enjoy daylight savings time. After sitting back and thinking about this, it makes way more sense considering that right now, we aren't actually saving any daylight. So I take back my comments about daylight savings time being annoying, and ruining my blog photos. It's regular time that I hate. Sorry daylight savings time. I look forward to seeing you again.

This is awesome! I love your version so much more than the original. And the buttons... brilliant! I wish I had thought of that before embroidering all those numbers. : ) Watch for your version to make an appearance in the next Prudent Project Round-up! Thanks for letting us know. I'm giddy that you tried it!

Ha ha!!! You ARE awesome! I've seen this type of thing before, but yours is super cute. I may just have to do it... My (red) bathroom doesn't have a clock in it, so whenever I take a bath, I'm blissfully unaware of how much time has elapsed, so when I finally emerge from my steamy sanctuary, all relaxed and smelling good, the hubby is usually giving me a look like, "Seriously. You've been in the bath since 1997." How awesome would a clock like this be in a bathroom? Um, super awesome.
